Statement
“Take a Seat and Eat” is a direct symbol of our consumption of plastic from pollution, but primarily pulled from Myrtle Beach, SC. A 2021 study discovered and quantified plastics found in human blood. 77% of individuals, tested in this study, were found to have microplastics in their blood. Plastic consumption is becoming extremely relevant and crucial to the survival of the human species now more than ever. People need to be more aware of this to create change for the future. Is this something people are aware of and how willing are people to change it?
“Take a Seat and Eat” consist of two formal table settings. One is created from ceramic processes on the wheel and hand-building techniques, and one is created out of plastic found off the coasts of Myrtle Beach, SC. The ceramic process is very in tune with nature and uses natural material and firing processes to be created. The ceramic vessels are to ground the viewer and remind them of what is most important and what needs protecting. The plastic vessels are to show the viewer of our direct consumption of plastic and how it’s affecting us. “Take a Seat and Eat” shows the direct line between our consumption of plastics by our plastic pollution. This is something we need to change in order to maintain our human species.
